To celebrate the occasion, Governor Murphy struck the first legal bets in the state by wagering $20 on the New Jersey Devils to win the NHL Stanley Cup and Germany to win the World Cup. NJ online sports betting has been legal since 2018, when Governor Phil Murphy signed the sports bill allowing the state’s casinos and racetracks to take wagers.
